Located just outside of the city centre, the University of Birmingham is the oldest Red Brick University in the UK, and is often referred to as the original red brick university. The University currently ranks at 17 in the Guardian 2016 University League tables, and was named “University of the Year 2014” by the Times Higher Education awards.
There are a range of courses available at the University of Birmingham, each belonging to an academic department. The six departments are:
The University operates on three main campuses; Edgbaston Campus, Selly Oak Campus and Mason College Campus. Depending on the course you decide to study, you would be based at one of these campuses.
Outside of academic studies, students can make use of the sports facilities on site, and participate in one of the 40 sports team, including cricket, rugby union, hockey and netball. Students will also benefit from the University of Birmingham Guild of Students, the students union. They are responsible for many bars and restaurants on site, as well as social spaces, social events and 180 active societies.
